6. Defending Odesa
During the siege of Odessa in 1941, the Soviet troops defending the city faced shortages in weapons and tanks. In response, the workers in Odessa’s factories took agricultural STZ Three tractors and turned them into improvised fighting vehicles known as “knee tanks.” Armed with machine guns, turrets, and flamethrowers, these makeshift tanks became symbols of Soviet resistance during World War II.
