The Peruvian Hairless Dog looks different because it doesn’t have any hair on its body, except for a few strands on its head. It’s a small dog that has been around for a very long time, even before the Incan Dynasty in Peru. People in ancient times in Peru started breeding these dogs. Back then, they were shown as friendly companions in pictures on pottery.

These dogs were used as food by people before the Incans took control. But the Incans believed these dogs had special powers and stopped eating them when they ruled the area. They thought the dogs could help with aching joints.

In Peru, these dogs are still really important, almost like the famous place Machu Picchu. They usually live for about eleven to twelve years. They weigh at most 26 pounds and are about 16-20 inches tall at their shoulders. These dogs are known for being lively, loving, and always watching out for things around them.
