18. Newfoundland

Average Price: $2,000*
Country of Origin: Canada

The Moscow Water Dog, also known as the Newfoundland, was first bred in the Dominion of Newfoundland, which is in present-day Canada. This happened even before Canada officially came together as a country. The Newfoundland is a big kind of dog that’s famous for its long fur and strong bones.

The boy dogs can weigh as much as 150 pounds, and the girl dogs can weigh around 120 pounds. Even though this dog is quite big and looks noble, it’s really easy to teach, friendly, and has a nice nature. Its main fur colors are black, grey, black and white, or brown. It usually lives for about ten years.

Newfoundlands aren’t mean dogs. You can check out videos on YouTube where they make friends with all sorts of animals, like foxes. There’s a story from Alberta, Canada, where a lady told the CBC that her three-year-old Newfoundland and a young female fox met in her backyard and became the best of pals.
