14. Daeodon : The Dreadful Pig
Imagine a massive pig-like creature with a rhino-like build, standing nearly 6 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing a staggering 1,650 pounds. Deodon, a predator from 23 million years ago, disrupted the peace in North America. Contrary to its modern-day descendants, these pigs were carnivorous, using their forward-facing eye sockets to track and chase prey. They relied on brute force and their long canines, measuring ten inches in length, to take down their unfortunate victims. Deodon’s extinction around 20 million years ago was likely due to changing global temperatures and dwindling food sources.
